Description  WWII USN Nurse's Collar Insignia
Price $ 45.00/pair

Original WWII US Navy Nurse Corps officer's pinback collar insignia, matched pair, in Sterling, in excellent condition. It's tough to improve upon the description offered on page 697 of the National Geographic's Insignia and Decorations of the US Armed Forces : "A bright gold foul anchor on which is superimposed a rose-gold oak leaf and acorn surcharged with the letters 'N.N.C' in bright silver. Worn on the indoor uniform on each side of the collar with the oak-leaf stem pointing toward the neck. Left device worn on nurse's hat." Each insignia of this perfectly matched pair measures 7/8" x 1 1/8" (2.3 cm. x 3 cm.) and bears an indecipherable hallmark on its reverse (though only one is stamped "Sterling"--go figure!). The twisted wire anchor line is separately-applied, as are the NNC letters. Handsome set of rare insignia, unpolished since WWII, so boasts a lovely uniform gray patina.
