Description  US WWI & WWII M1917 Browning HMG Armorer's Wooden Tool Box
Price $ 85.00

Armorer's WWI-vintage tool box for the M1917 Browning heavy machinegun, crafted of oiled dovetailed oak with solid brass hardware, in excellent condition. This handy tool chest was type-specific, as indicated by the fragmentary contents list still pasted inside its lid, and the routed compartments in its floor mated to unique M1917 tools. Box measures 4 1/2" x 8" x 25 1/4" (11 x 20 x 64cm) and is equipped with massive inletted steel hinges and a hefty solid brass spring catch. This crate is really a lovely piece of furniture, and would command a respectable price as such, bereft of any historical connection. It may have been painted khaki or OD originally, but looks outstanding just the way it is. The stout oiled russet leather handle, handstitched with natural waxed linen thread, is a perfect replacement, crafted 25 years ago--so it looks "old," but will last for many years to come. See Crowell's America's Munitions, 1917-1918 for all kinds of intel on the development and manufacture of American MGs and their accessories during WWI. Nice piece if you're working on a Browning water- cooled MG, if you are looking for a really cool ditty box for WWI/WWII living history, or if you just need a handsome and functional Stuff Box for the Man Cave.
